Why teams switch from Slack
Your workspace is an MCP server
Add one URL to Claude Code, Cursor or any MCP client. It signs in as you with OAuth, no app to register, and can read and post in channels, threads and pages.
Docs live next to the thread
Pages are edited together in real time, with tables, task lists and Mermaid diagrams, and open as a tab from the message that links them.
Keys for people who live on the keyboard
⌘K jumps anywhere. The Minimal style adds Vim keys: j and k, g-chords and a : command line.
Moving from Slack
Create your channels, invite the team, and connect your AI tools: add the workspace’s
MCP URL to Claude Code or Cursor, or sign in to ChatGPT or Cursor under Settings › AI
so @ai can answer in threads. Custom bots become connectors: anything that speaks HTTP
can be one. There is no Slack importer, so most teams move the channels they use every
day and leave Slack read-only for a few weeks while history stops mattering.
Where Slack is the better choice
Slack has a far larger app directory, desktop and mobile apps, voice and video huddles, and Slack Connect for channels shared with customers and vendors. If your work depends on any of those, Hasarak won’t replace Slack for you yet. Slack’s free plan limits visible history to 90 days and integrations to 10 apps, so check those against your team’s needs before deciding either way.
Where Hasarak is the better choice
Hasarak is built for teams who write things down and want their AI tools in the same place. Pages hold specs, runbooks and postmortems next to the channel that discusses them, edited together and linked from the thread. The workspace is an MCP server that any client can sign in to as a member, so your scripts and agents read and post with the same permissions as the person who signed in. And if you live on the keyboard, the Minimal style gives you Vim keys throughout.

Questions
What is the best Slack alternative for developers?
It depends on what you need. If you want chat with docs next to it and an MCP server your AI tools can sign in to, Hasarak fits. If you must self-host, look at Mattermost, Zulip or Rocket.Chat. If you need voice huddles, mobile apps and a huge app directory, Slack is still hard to beat.
How is Hasarak's MCP server different from Slack's?
Hasarak's MCP server is part of every workspace: add the URL to any MCP client and it registers itself and signs in with OAuth as you. It uses code mode, so one tool call can work across channels, pages and installed connectors. Slack's MCP server, generally available since February 2026, only accepts clients built on a registered Slack app, and admins approve each one.
Is there an official Slack client for the terminal?
No. Slack has no official terminal client; community projects such as wee-slack (a WeeChat plugin) exist. Hasarak's terminal client is in development and not released yet; today Hasarak is a web app, with a Minimal style that looks and types like a terminal.
Can I import my Slack history into Hasarak?
Not today. Teams usually recreate their active channels and keep Slack read-only for old history during the switch.
Does Hasarak have huddles or video calls like Slack?
No. Hasarak is built for written conversation and docs. Keep a video tool for meetings.
Does Hasarak have desktop and mobile apps?
Not yet. Hasarak runs in the browser at app.hasarak.com today; desktop, terminal, iOS and Android apps are in development.
